THE GENIUS BOY is more than an artist — he is a music producer, songwriter, tenor, recording artist, and a Gun Funk Artist. He is Music Royalty.
Born in Cameroon in 1979, he is the son of a prominent political figure who served as a governor and was a close ally of President Paul Biya. At the age of four, his family relocated to the Italian-speaking canton of Ticino, Switzerland, where he spent his childhood. He is a Swiss citizen.
Growing up, he was immersed in a multicultural environment. His closest friends were Italian and Chilean boys from his neighborhood, and together they shared what he remembers as an unforgettable childhood. Music filled those early years, with Michael Jackson and Madonna providing the soundtrack.
By the late 1980s, hip-hop had arrived, and everything changed. Around the age of ten, he fell deeply in love with the culture and the music. Although he grew up in Italy's cultural orbit, his heart belonged to New York. East Coast hip-hop became his true musical home and would shape his artistic vision for years to come.
Academically gifted, he excelled in mathematics while also studying Latin in high school. Throughout his education—from kindergarten to university—he was always the only Black student in his town, an experience that profoundly influenced his perspective on identity, belonging, and resilience. In the 1980s and 1990s, the African national population made up well under 0.2% of the total Swiss resident population.
The name THE GENIUS BOY carries a deeply personal meaning. It honors one of his teachers, Mrs. Monica Invernizzi, who encouraged him as a child by saying, "You're a genius, baby. Don't you ever forget that." Those words stayed with him and eventually became the inspiration for the artist name he proudly carries today.
In the summer of 1999, he made the first of many journeys to New York City. More than a trip, it was a pilgrimage to the birthplace of the culture that had inspired him since childhood—a city that would become central to his musical identity and creative evolution.
